Backup artist

Incase of any emergencies we have decided to place Alice as our backup artist. We have already rehearsed Alice multiple times as we used her for a part of our prototype video as we were unable to use Kiera.

Prototype analysis

This prototype includes multiple simplified versions of the sets we are planning on doing for our music video. The simplifications come from the lighting, costume, props, setting, camera work and editing.

For the prototype we had lots of fast paced shots as we didn't have the resources to create all six of the sets we are building for the real shoot. As the audience are shown all of the different locations within the first 45 seconds of the prototype, we have taken this on board and will create slower transitions between each set. To aid this we will also have many more different camera angles per set instead of just having one or two.

After watching our prototype over and over we have decided that we would like to start rehearsing Kiera more so that she gives off a more mellow feel as the artist. We thought her movement and facial expressions created an energy that was too upbeat for the song and our planned artist.

For the lighting we used two tubular fluorescent lights, blue and red. For the real shoot each set has its own colour and so the lighting will vary a lot more than in the prototype.

Master List

Here is a page by page analysis of our master list:

This is the set we are using as the transition between some of our main sets. This will be created during the editing process of our production and so we do not need to build it.
This is one of our main six sets. It is very simplistic and includes a red brick wall with no props.

This set includes a short staircase and fluorescent tube lights symmetrically placed either side of the stairs.
This set consists of two inward facing chairs with a small side table and a lamp emitting a red light. To the left side there will also be a window with red light beaming through.
This set consists of two tall gel flats placed together to create a right angle. Projectors will be placed behind each flat and will project bright green neon signs whilst our artist performs in the centre.
This set includes a ladder in front of a wall covered in spray paint. The ladder will have two fluorescent tube lights going down the back of each ladder so they are invisible to the audience.

Set drawings and descriptions

We have created detailed drawings and descriptions of our sets. We did this in preparation for talking with an experienced set designer about our video and in particular, the sets. The pictures are a mixture of everyone's as we took them from the picture boards we created last week. Matilda did all the drawings as she has art experience and does A-level art. Sarah, Carl and I did the descriptions and I created the prop list that shows all the props we need and where we can get them from.

Below are all of the sets:

Finding a substitute artist for our prototype.

When we began the filming for our prototype video we couldn't get a hold of Kiera and so we used Alice as a substitute artist so we could still achieve the planned shots and not get stuck behind. We chose and informed Alice moments before the rehearsal / filming began and so we had little to no preparation. However, Alice was very professional and learnt some lyrics very quickly as we had made it extremely clear how important getting footage for our prototype was.

Prototype plan

Today I created a short plan for our prototype filming day.

We are only using three of our set ideas in our prototype video as we feel these sets are the most developed.

CHAIRS AND LAMP SET

Location? - Learning support rooms -

Props? - Need to find a lamp - have two chairs

Lighting? - lamp and ask matt to use some gel

Costumes? - what she is wearing (insert pic)

LADDER GRAFFITI SET

Location? - Top hurt wood

Props? - Ladder and spray paint (Ask Al and art department)

Lighting? - ask matt for fluorescent lights

Costume?- Give Keira some of Matilda's clothes

CORRIDOR SET

Location? - music studios

Props? - None

Costume? - once again mix Keira and Matilda's clothes

Lighting? - the corridor has LED's built in

Today's lesson was very productive. Everyone in the group was doing separate tasks and being extremely efficient. Matilda carried on drawing out and describing our other set ideas and Carl was finding the props and lighting in advance for us to use for the prototype shoot.

Prototype music video

We are soon going to start planning a prototype for our music video. This is going to be filmed on an iPhone, however we are going to try to make it as similar as we can to what we envision our real music video to look like. We are creating a prototype to test out our sets, costumes and as a rehearsal for our singer. This is going to help us see if our sets are realistic and not too ambitious, to see if the costumes for our singer relate / match the sets and to rehearse our singer to make sure she knows the lyrics and can perform confidently. The prototype is also going to help us see if we have enough content to cover the duration of the song without having to repeat too much.

Developing our set ideas

We rounded up our favourite pictures from the picture boards we all created. I am very happy with the pictures we have chosen as they all have a very similar urban / London look.

We are planning on basing our sets off of these selected pictures. We now need to discuss the details of the props and lighting we want in each of these sets.

We are thinking of having this as a separate set that we reset to when transitioning between sets. The idea is that some of the windows would show the colour of our sets and we would zoom in until the camera enters the window and we are back in a different set.

Creating picture boards

In today's lesson we searched for any photo's related to London and fashion. We all found around 40-50 pictures each off of google images and put them all together to create picture boards. Below are some examples:

Next lesson we are going to look at each others picture boards and decide which pictures we like the most and which ones we would like create sets from.

There is a huge variety of styles and colours in these pictures which gives us a lot of options when deciding where we want to go from this.

Discussing the next step for our music video.

Today we had a group discussion about where we think our video is heading and what we should do next. We decided to each create a picture board of what we envision our video / sets to look like.
